Silly Question
Hi There,
I Recently had to re-format myPC, now what I would normally do when re-installing Guild Wars Is Install Prophesies, then Factions, then Nightfall & then finally Eye Of The North.
Then I Would go in-game to get further game updates before playing. yesterday i re-formatted my PC, installed Prophecies & mistakingly clicked on one of my characters. my character was in Lions Arch however before going to 'in-game' it began to update & install over 18,000 files.
Does it mean that i have downloaded the expansion componants via the net ? Or do I now have to load them via my discs (factions/nightfall/EOTN) Is My Game Now Completely up to date as it downloaded over 18,000. I guess i just would like to know if i need to install the expansions or not
Thanx Again, Like I said before, all I need to know know is wheather I need to install the expansions via my discs or wheather that has been taken care of already by installing the client and then updating when i logged into the game itself (18,000 files)
Cheers

Once you install any of the campains you have enough to run the game. Those 18k files were any extra files you NEEDED. note that every time you zone into a big town you will have more files to download to account for new textures like peoples armor unless you do the -image thing.
Short answer~You don't need to install the expansions your fine as is.

Thank Goodness,
It Was My Own Fault, But I just wanted to make sure I didnt have to still install Factions/Nightfall/EOTN after it took soooooo long to download the 18,000 files
Wont be doing that in a hurry. No wonder it took so long, having to install
the expansion files
sheesh

In the future just install your latest game which would be Nightfall.
The rest is a waste of time as your just installing pretty much the same files over and over.

but if I install one campagn & then update via the net, wouldnt it just be updating the necessery files, even if its over 18,000.
I can understand that if I were installing all the discs, but surely if im installing prophecies & then updating via the net, it would then only install what i need according to what keys i have installed on my account????

I'm pretty sure those 18,000 files you're downloading are the base things you need to be able to load the continent (Tyria in this case) - but the Nightfall disk contains all of the Prophecies, Factions AND Nightfall content instead of just Nightfall stuff

Just download the most updated client from guildwars.com/download and run the -image command overnight, the next day you will be ready to roll.

Thats Great Advice Thanx To You All For Your Help, But Just To Make Sure Im On The Right Track, I shouldnt have to install Anything Else right now after the 18,000 have now downloaded (And Took Hours & Hours To Complete)?
The Factions, Nightfall & EOTN Componants Should Be Installed Already Via The Net????
Sorry But Just Wanna Make Sure, lol

GW can stream content in as you play, so no, you do not need to be fully updated in order to play.

All the game discs contain the entire game but the content is updated, so the prophesies disc is way out of date and would require loads of update via the net.
Factions less so Nightfall even less and Eye of the North the least as its the most updated version.
If you had copied the game folder from your system you could have copied it back after reformatting and run the exe file that would have installed the game too.
Your account on line holds all the information that makes your game different to mine and everyone else.

Just to clarify, a game disk has a snapshot of the game when the disk was made. So if you load from the disk you then also need all the additional/changed content to be fully up to date.
that additional/changed data can come in in a number of ways.
1. use the -image command and leave it overnight to download the lot
2. leave the game on and data will stream in the background
3. Enter an area with new content, and the required info for that area currently missing from your data (your .dat file) will force download (ie the load screens between zones)
If you're installing from disk it's preferable to use the most recent disk you have so there are less changes you need to get. Doesn't matter which chapter, since the client is the same.
If you're planning to re-format your PC again, it's worth burning your game .dat file to disk. Then you can just copy it back once the game's installed, and you'll be back up to where you were before the reformat
The game client is the same for Prophs, Facrions, Nightfall or EoTN. The only differece is whether your .dat file has downloaded the area specific content yet
